I have a set of 22x10.5" satin black Verde Axis V99 rims (that have been discontinued, and I cannot replace unless I randomly find a 22x10.5" satin black 5x120 +25mm offset used or pre-owned one for sale somewhere) that cost over $4000 with tires, have been on the Sport since August of 2024, and already have curb rash and road damage to three, thanks primarily to my wife, as of last weekend my brother-in-law, and as much as it kills me, even I curbed the front and back rims on the passenger side on a couple occasions due to impatience or anger. Even the smallest scratch kills me, and when my wife first curbed a rim for the first time back in December, I tried to immediately order a replacement only to find out the wheels were on national back order, so I waited the 3 months for them to come back in stock, but they never did and ended up being discontinued. Since then, 2 more wheels have been curbed, 2 of them fairly badly. When we bought the car, we did end up opting to keep the warranty the dealer had already added / built in for covering things like paint, body and wheel damage, being assured that it would cover aftermarket wheels and any damage, as long as we reported as road hazard or road hazard damage. That was bullshit. The warranty company told me that the rim basically has to be damaged to a point that it can't hold air or isn't useable or safe due to the damage, nothing cosmetic. I have spoken with a couple places out here so far, one being Rim Repair RX. I sent them video and pics of the wheels and damage, and they replied with the following:
"Price to fix the curb rash on the three wheels is $500 for mobile service or $450 if you bring it to our shop located in Phoenix around I-17 and Dunlap. We repair cosmetic wheel damage by grinding out curb rash or blemishes, then sanding and smoothing the area to restore its shape. Finally, we repaint and/or polish the damaged area to blend with the factory finish, making it look as good as physically possible and as close to new as we can! This service is completed without removing the wheel or tire from the vehicle."
I have also been in touch with another repair shop that my detailer referred me to, Phoenix Rim Repair, providing them with the same pics and videos of the wheels. They responded with the following to me:
"We can smooth out all the damage, if any of the spokes are deformed from the damage we can do our best to smooth them out as best as possible. Then I'd recommend just doing a fresh coat of black powder for the best and most durable finish. If you can bring them before October ends we can do the set for $700.
If not prices go back to $800 for November 1st.
If we just do cosmetics it may be difficult to match the fresh paint with the old finish. But prices would range around $150 per wheel for paint cosmetic repairs."
So far, those are the only 2 places I spoken with. I am leaning towards the second option, as the $200 (or $300, but I'd press for the $700 price still) extra to have them freshly powder coated and it seems would do more or better work (I hope). I also have the OEM stock set of black RR 20's with the tires sitting in my garage and I can have Discount Tire swap them out for me (free of charge, surprisingly) so I can drop off the wheels themselves and allow them to repair them off the car, which in my mind would be at least a little easier, and I don't feel like giving them my car for 3+ days along with needing it. Once repaired, I plan on getting them protected with ceramic coating and might even add physical edge / lip guards if my wife is ever going to drive it again. And I don't plan on letting anyone else drive it again even if it's family after my brother-in-law needed to use it to transport something and had it for maybe 3-4 hours and manage to curb the front driver's rim with a good 4-5" of fresh rash. He even mentioned it to my wife and said he'd pay for the damage (he's good for it and will pay for it if I ask him), I just can't stand anyone fucking up my car, at all, even if they will fix or pay for whatever they damage.
For reference (protect your eyes, it's like a horror show), here are pics of the rims and damage. They look awful in these pics.
