Advice needed for ECU Reset 2016 RR Td6

I detected a couple of codes that may be errors, and would like to simply reset to factory specs the ECU. I assume it’s the old remove the negative battery cable, and run the lights or other appliances to drain the ECU capacitors. (I don’t mean simply “clearing“ the codes)

Three questions: 1) how long this should be done for? 2) is this the correct method? 3 ) Is there any reason NOT to do this due to the highly technical aspects of this Rover?
