Land Rover. Range Rover. Both are synonymous with refined, off-road SUVs with upper-crust British sensibilities. But what's the difference?
Let's start with the basics: Land Rover is a brand. Range Rovers are SUV models made by Land Rover.
Land Rover is part of a larger company, Jaguar Land Rover, which is in turn owned by Tata Motors.
All six SUVs in Land Rover's portfolio feature serious off-roading capabilities, luxurious interiors, and potent powertrains. However, there's a slightly different bent to their branding, says product planning manager Dave Larsen. "Both help people make the most of their world and provide capability with composure," he said, "but they have different identities."
Range Rover SUVs (the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, and Range Rover Evoque) are made by Land Rover. While all Land Rover vehicles focus on versatility and utility, Range Rover vehicles put an extra emphasis on refinement - premium cabins and capable performance.
